2005 chases
Summary: I was not able to chase as much as my dad, due to starting new jobs and being newly married. Overall I didn’t see much, but it’s good to get the juices flowing!
28 March - Metro Richmond, VA
My dad met me and I took off from work to chase. We watched a line cross the city from Church Hill, and then headed down towards Chesterfield County to move in the sunshine.
As we enjoyed the warm weather, we watched towers build to our south and move towards us. The storm was very unorganized and we were flabbergasted as a warning went out. What happened as the storm collapsed in a very narrow area just a couple miles away from us, spewing wind and hail that damaged aircraft at the county airport.
2 April - Central VA
We chased primarily in Louisa County and saw pea-sized hail. We saw some rotation but miscalculated the direction of the storm and never could catch back up with it. The best thing is the hail fall picture that I was able to snag.
23 April - East Central VA
I met my dad in Port Royal and there were storms all around that formed into a line. Unfortunately we picked the spot in the line where the storms were the weakest, so we only heard about the severe winds and hail and didn’t see them. We did see a lowering for a brief minute, though, so it wasn’t totally a lost cause.
27 July - West Central VA
I met my dad and we chased a strong cold front moving through. We saw some heavy rain and lightning, but nothing severe.
