Very Blessed...

Each night I realize how blessed I am as I look around me and see a house that I had no idea we could afford, I see reliable transportation, and I see good health. Most importantly I see my incredible wife, who I totally don't deserve. I guess the cat is cute too...

Okay, enough of the sap... I'm pumped b/c I'm in full geek mode. For Christmas I got satellite radio in my car (for my long commute) and satellite tv w/ a dvr (for south park recordings) for cheap. I got a 512mb USB key on my key chain, I got a new cell phone that's frickin sweet, and a $75 gift certificate at Best Buy. I'm gearing up for a huge software upgrade this upcoming week for QuanticoBoot.com which will dramatically streamline business, decrease errors, and increase mobility - and ultimately decrease stress.

On some levels I feel a bad for enjoying these perks - as they are just that - perks. I want to always live below my means - I'd like to think that even if we struck it rich, most if not all wouldn't know unless we told them. I think there are more important things in life and I want to make sure that I use my blessings and talents for God's Kingdom and not for simple material enjoyment.

As we settle in to Mechanicsville, I really want to start making this "home"... as in, outside of serving at church, I want to get involved more in the community and drop some roots - whether that's volunteering somewhere or joining a historical association or whatever... I'm really interested in the Pole Green church, which is just up the road where Rev. Samuel Davies got his start and dramatically furthered the cause of religious freedom. It's with these actions I'm interested in, especially combined with my love of the long view of history. I'm afraid many of my fellow Baptists do not know where we came from and how our forefathers had to struggle just to worship in the open.
