Left around lunchtime and headed south toward moderate risk. Storms were supposed to form over mountains and go severe after crossing the ridgeline. Stopped in Orange for data check and targeted Amherst CH. Decided to cross the mountains on US 60 and at Buena Vista ran into a storm with a warning on it. To manuever ourselves to the SW quadrant of the storm and to head to an easier mountain crossing, we drove south towards 501 for about 10 miles. We caught up with the storm but could not see any features. The storm moved off and we heard reports of another severe storm headed toward Lynchburg. We drove to intercept it, but it vanished as we took US 460 out of the city. Basically, no tornadoes and not much to show for a Moderate Risk and Tornado Watch. Figured marine layer intruded a little farther west than anticipated. Crossing over into the Valley would have been the only real highlight had I not got stuck behind this stupid Outback that couldn't handle mountain pass driving. |

I knew my Dad was chasing storms all day. I, being the poor college student, had to work. I finished at 6:00 and glanced at the radar, noticing a storm heading SE from Warrenton toward Fredericksburg. I called my dad and he just got slammed by severe hail from the storm up in Bealeton. I left work and crossed town and situated myself at Central Park at Va 3 and I-95. Awesome view of the approaching storm and meso with a wall-cloud and short-lived funnel. Dad was on the Stafford side of the river and we made several calls to the NWS as this storm had a severe thunderstorm warning. Because of Friday afternoon traffic, I could not escape as it headed right for me. Luckily for my safety and unluckily for my viewing pleasure, the storm dissapated in the setting sun. Pictures will be up shortly |

Conditions seemed good, with -6 to -8 LI's and 2000 CAPE with a cold front moving in. Storms percolated across the river in Maryland but could not rise without forcing from the front. A coastal low hung around a bit later than forecasted, drawing energy away from potential storms. Big Bust. |

Storms were supposed to fire over the mountains along cold front and move towards the east. SPC called for 5% tornado chances. Drove out to the mountains along Rappahannock County and tracked the front back east. After all but giving up, the storms starting rotating around Wilderness. The NWS Sterling radar was not fixed by the afternoon as hoped and we made several spotter reports. Two tornado warnings were issued with us giving substantial input as the eyes on the ground. Nice funnel clouds ( ) Lost ground to the storm due to Fredericksburg traffic and ducked south as it moved north, eventually following it to the . |

Storms were supposed to fire ahead of the cold front over the mountains and after the soup covering the Tidewater and Piedmont broke. The low clouds lifted around Opal, but we decided to head for better synoptic locations to the north. Stopped at the Middleburg Library to check the computers and the storms to our west were dying as they moved into the low clouds and killed them. Best action to our south around Opal... pretty much a bust. |
